About Paradromics

We are building a direct data interface with the brain to provide technology solutions to unmet medical challenges. A revolutionary leap beyond today’s research-grade brain computer interfaces (BCI), our Connexus® Direct Data Interface (DDI) collects neural signals at an industry-leading high data-rate and is designed for long-term daily use. Our first clinical application will enable severely motor-impaired people to communicate and independently use a computer, translating their neural signals into synthesized speech, text, and cursor control. We will continue to expand the capabilities of our massively scalable platform to support a pipeline of future applications that could benefit millions.

The Role

Paradromics is looking for an exceptional mechanical engineer with good first principals understanding of materials and manufacturing methods. You will be involved in designing, building, and testing high data rate brain computer interfaces, but you do not need a background in neuroscience or medical devices to be successful in this role. We are looking for individuals who have worked in industries that are both technically complex and subject to regulatory oversight (e.g. surgical robotics, electric cars, aerospace, active implantable medical devices). A successful applicant must be both technically excellent AND have experience working within a quality system and as part of a cross-functional team that includes non-scientists.

We are looking for team members who are intellectually curious and have “T” shaped expertise, meaning incredible mechanical engineering skills as well as a broad knowledge of other topics acquired through natural curiosity and broad life experience.

This is an individual contributor position with the possibility of developing into a working manager of a small team. An important aspect of this role will be mentoring junior colleagues and working cross-functionally with a range of exceptional individuals.

This role will involve designing test apparatus and custom fixtures for complex manufacturing processes. You will be a key contributor to the Verification and Validation process that will culminate in a human clinical trial next year. You will work closely with the manufacturing team to improve reliability and yield, and you will work with scientists and other engineers to design next generation advanced BCIs.

Required Education And Experience

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Eng. or related field
  • Minimum of 4 years related work experience.
  • A portfolio of completed projects that speaks to your exceptional capabilities

Required Qualifications

  • In-depth understanding of 3D mechanical design and Solidworks.
  • Experience with designs from concept through production, either using in-house fabrication or coordinated with external vendors.
  • Demonstrated practical understanding of GD&T and dimensional metrology.
  • Experience designing in a highly regulated quality control environment
  • Experience designing and executing experimental methods for bench characterization and verification/validation testing.
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills.
  • Very strong analytical and debugging skills.
  • Ability to produce well-written technical reports and documentation.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced organization with shifting responsibilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a diverse group of people.
  • Organization and ability to attain results on several projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise with finite element simulations.
  • Experience designing and building hermetic devices
  • Experience designing devices that experience high temperature changes and where CTE mismatch is an important design consideration
  • Experience integrating microelectronics into space-constrained packaging
  • Experience designing fixturing to facilitate low-risk handling of valuable samples in complex processes
