You will join a team developing a state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.
We are seeking a qualified machinist to lead our in-house machine shop. This is a huge opportunity to be a part of the foundation of the future. This specific role will lead the in-house manufacturing of the newest designs, support mass manufacturability and scalability of our designs and be at the forefront of innovation. This role will include running manual machines (mill, lathe, drill press, grinders etc.), supporting QC & inspection tasks and 3D printing.
Qualified candidates MUST:
- Have a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Machine Shop environment
- Be capable of performing setups with minimal supervision and be familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures of fabrications and machine shop
- Be comfortable with tight tolerances and GD&T interpretation - Most of our components are very critical and flight worthy for the next trip to outer space!
Responsibilities
Primary:
- Machine Shop
- Establish best practices for the machine shop
- Manage the shop queue, set job priorities and assign work
- Manage raw material and hardware purchasing for shop jobs
- Read and understand blueprints and have knowledge of speeds and feeds
- Meet and exceed the times allotted for the jobs
- Identify & help solve manufacturing engineering problems across all program stages
- Produce precision prototype hardware and provide fabrication support
- Quality Control
- Develop best practice and procedures for QC checks for incoming parts
- Conduct QC Checks (using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM)
- Manage QC instruments and maintain certifications for calibrated equipment
- 3D Printing (SLS and Filament printers)
- Manage print queue, production and post-processing
- Develop best practices and procedures
- Maintenance and servicing of the machines
- Manage supplies inventory and re-ordering
Secondary:
- Assist / perform routine maintenance of machines and equipment
- Provide DFM feedback to relevant departments
Must Have
- Experience:
- Machining: 4 years minimum
- Managing Machinists: 2 years
- GD&T knowledge
- Ability to perform setups with minimal supervision
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures of fabrications and machine shop
- Comfortable with tight tolerances and GD&T interpretation
- QC experience
- Working knowledge of OnShape or other computer aided design (CAD) software
- Basic Computer skills and able to pick up new software quickly
- Proven hands-on skills and mechanical aptitude
- Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills
- Initiative and self-motivation - ability to work with little supervision
- Strong written communication skills and a collaborative nature
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and able to follow safety, operation and maintenance procedures
Nice to Have
- Experience in a CAM software, 3 & 5 axis CNC machining & CMM operation is a plus
- Prototype & start-up experience is highly desirable
- Familiarity with 3D/SLS printing
