At Captain (, we’re building a platform for outdoor sports based on the belief that everyone deserves easy access to exploring the outdoors.

Focused first on fishing, we'll soon unlock all outdoor sports and geographies, and leading venture investors including Andrew Chen at a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Goodwater Capital, Not Boring Capital, Capital Factory, and others back us in making our passion our profession. We hope you’ll join us.

Who You Are:

We’re hiring our first full-time designer to significantly improve UI/UX and revamp the look, feel, and flow of the site.

You’ll work directly with our Co-Founder & Head of Product Attison, diving in to redesign our web application using our updated brand collateral and thoughtfully improve the user journey for adventurers and guides with a focus on conversion.

You’re not only proud of your designs - you also keep an eye towards the customer experience, lean into design and product management conversations, and itch to grow as a leader as we build out the Captain engineering team in 2022 and beyond.

Table Stakes:

-Hands-on professional who exhibits artistic ability and visual aptitude

-Ability to uplift business KPIs through design principles

-Excellent command of visual communication that inspires and engages

-Experience working on cross-functional product teams in professional settings

-A portfolio demonstrating experience working on consumer-facing platforms

-A passion for analyzing and understanding quantitative data and qualitative insights to inform design

-A deep understanding of key UI/UX principles, processes, and methodologies beyond “look and feel”

-Experience in Figma or Sketch or comparable platform strongly preferred

-Desire to work in a fast-paced environment and wear many hats

-Experience in / knowledge of the outdoor industry preferred

-Located in or willing to relocate to Austin, Texas

-Value in-person collaboration (we work 3 days in person per week from our downtown Austin office)

What You Do:

-Curate design of the visual elements of our responsive site, graphics, and overall user experience

-Help create and implement our new look and feel in accordance with Captain’s summer ‘22 rebrand

-Perform all functions within the product design lifecycle, including research & user flows, wireframes, and usability checks & design QA, all with an eye towards covering ground and improving the experience across all facets of the site

-Update Captain’s current responsive web app, as well as design new desktop and mobile features

-Synthesize customer feedback into constantly improving design

-Utilize both qualitative and quantitative data to mature user flows and the overall user journey

-Conduct design reviews/audits of existing and new features to judge effectiveness and implement design improvements
