This role is leveled as IC5. Please feel free to ask any questions about compensation and levels during your initial interview.

As Coder’s Senior Payroll Specialist, you will own every paycheck from input to deposit. You’ll be the backbone of our people operations by mastering multi-state calculations, tax filings, and the nuances of benefits and withholdings.

Your meticulous eye and proactive mindset will catch discrepancies before they become problems, ensuring that every team member sees exactly what they earned, exactly when they expected it. You’ll partner across departments to streamline processes, maintain best practices, and champion continuous improvement.

What you’ll do here

  • Run end-to-end, semi-monthly multi-state payroll for a high-growth team, focusing on accuracy and compliance

  • Manage off-cycle payments, including bonuses, commissions, and severance

  • Reconcile earnings, taxes, benefits, 401(k), and GL accounts, fixing discrepancies before each close

  • File federal, state, and local payroll taxes, W-2s, and other statutory reports on time, partnering with vendors for state filings

  • Audit and improve by streamlining workflows, documenting processes, and slashing error rates

  • Serve as payroll SME, resolving employee questions with empathy and clarity

  • Partner cross-functionally on compensation projects that affect everyone at Coder

What we’re looking for

  • 4+ years running high-volume, multi-state payroll

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. wage & hour, payroll tax, and benefits regulations

  • Fluency in cloud payroll or ERP platforms (Rippling, Deel, etc.) and advanced Excel skills

  • Previous experience working with PEOs, EORs, and administering international payroll

  • Exceptional attention to detail, proven in GL reconciliations and audit-ready reporting

  • Clear, confident communicator across different levels and departments

Bonus tacos if you have

  • (Tacos? If you need an ice-breaker, ask how we say thanks by giving tacos!)

  • NetSuite / SuitePeople or OneSource Virtual experience

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)

  • Global payroll or equity-comp exposure

  • SOX-controls or public-company audit know-how

  • Garnishment and multi-entity expertise
