Data Analyst II (Benchmarking Compliance)

SUMMARY
The Analyst will mine energy and water data from various internal databases, will communicate with vendor utilities in gathering whole building energy usage data, gather property specific characteristics through survey forms, validate collected data, perform various analyses of the data, and communicate to clients and other parties with results and future action plans. The Analyst will be required to manage multiple projects at once.
It is essential that Analysts build an understanding of the multifamily and commercial real estate business, particularly as it pertains to utility usage and expense at a level of detail that enables them to identify and address critical issues and file for municipal, state and financial institution benchmarking mandates.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Analyst will be responsible for the following:
- Mine and organize data that is accurate, congruent, and reliable for analysis
- Collaborate with clients to determine business requirements, priorities, define key performance indicators (KPI) and can effectively communicate this information to Clients
- Design, develop, and document internal and external dashboards, alerts, and reports
- Understand how data is turned into valuable information and how that knowledge supports and enables key business decisions for our clients
- Perform benchmarking of building energy and water usage and expenses, utilizing the EPA Energy Star Portfolio Manager tool
- Analyze energy consumption and expense data to identify and resolve billing, rate, or consumption issues
- Review monthly utility related financial reports and provide written variance analysis
- Perform utility rate and tariff analysis of energy and water accounts
- Develop energy and water related reports and graphs for client presentations
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Sustainability, Data Analytics, Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field; 2 years related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- The ideal candidate must have strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities as well as possess the ability to use and interpret data and queries as part of the decision-making process. It is desirable for the candidate to have experience with multifamily or commercial real estate management, knowledge of electric, natural gas and water utilities, knowledge of business processes, excellent written and verbal communication, team collaboration skills, conduct detailed research, and deal with complex issues on an ongoing basis.
- The ideal candidate must be highly organized with an attention to detail, as well as possess strong presentation skills. The candidate should maintain a positive and professional demeanor and be an independent thinker who can balance the ability to work on their own along with being part of a team. The ability to understand, adapt to and lead change in a business environment is also critical.
