The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to help us design revolutionary augmented reality products. In this position, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and executing the design of advanced products, ensuring technical excellence, and fostering innovation. You will work within a team of talented engineers, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing significantly to the development of cutting-edge products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute technical expertise to mechanical design efforts and actively collaborate with teammates to support high-quality, innovative product development.

  • Integrate electronic equipment, sensors, optics, cameras, etc. into complex, high-performance hardware systems.

  • Conduct thermal and structural analyses to validate and optimize designs for performance and reliability.

  • Maintain industrial design intent, ensuring that mechanical solutions align with aesthetic goals and user experience requirements.

  • Produce high-fit and finish parts, paying meticulous attention to detail, craftsmanship, and quality.

  • Work with cutting-edge materials and manufacturing processes to push the boundaries of what is possible in product design.

  • Design intricate mechanisms to enable and enhance product functionality.

  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to support the transition of mechanical designs into production, incorporating feedback to improve manufacturability, quality, and cost.

  • Support the full product development lifecycle, including concept development, prototyping and testing, CAD modeling, FEA analysis, detailed design, product qualification, and low-rate initial production (LRIP).

Experience, Skills, and Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design and product development (ideally AR/VR, consumer electronics, or precision mechanisms).

  • Strong proficiency in mechanical CAD tools (CREO or SOLIDWORKS preferred) and FEA simulation.

  • Consumer electronics design experience in most of these areas: industrial design, optics and lenses, cameras, sensors, displays, PCBs and flexes, sensors.

  • Demonstrated experience with DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, and GD&T.

  • Familiarity with a range of manufacturing methods (injection molding, machining, casting, 3D printing, MIM, etc.).

  • Experience integrating mechanical components with optical and electrical systems (PCB/flex, thermal design, motion control).

  • Strong understanding of 3D math, simulation techniques, and numerical modeling.

  • Ability to translate aesthetic design into functional mechanical solutions.

  • Experience with AR/VR technologies and optical systems.

  • Experience designing for weight reduction and structural optimization.

  • Experience designing for environmental sealing (IP ratings: dust/water).

  • Qualified candidate must have the ability to obtain a security clearance. This requires U.S. Citizenship
