We're looking for people who are independent, self-motivated, and driven by the impact they can have on our users. For this role, we're seeking a lead Android engineer to join our team, take ownership of our Android development efforts, and help build the safest communications platform on the planet. You would be starting our Android project from scratch and tasked with eventually achieving feature parity with our iOS and web apps. You would also be involved in defining the future feature set and roadmap of the overall platform.

We're a global SaaS company offering communication and productivity applications tailored for---but not limited to--specialized, highly secure, regulated markets, e.g. law enforcement, counter-terrorism, healthcare, finance, etc. Our full team is entirely remote with members in Australia, the UK, both coasts of the U.S., Montana, Georgia, and Texas.
Responsibilities:
As our lead Android Engineer, you will:
- Bootstrap the Android code base for our next generation platform;
- Define the deployment pipeline from conception, through code, to testing, to the Play store;
- Own the ongoing maintenance and iteration/evolution of the platform on Android;
- Collaborate on and contribute to product design and system architecture as the platform evolves with our users, with the state-of-the-art, and with our vision;
- Take initiative to define and prioritize your tasks in accordance with our shared goals and vision.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field;
- 5+ years of work experience building Android Applications;
- Experience with Kotlin & Java;
- Extensive understanding of Android framework, its components, and their respective lifecycles;
- Familiarity with the Android ecosystem for development, testing, and debugging;
- Experience developing highly performant Java code;
- A disciplined approach to development, testing, documentation and code structure;
- Rock solid CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms and programming languages;
- Comfort working and collaborating with remote teams;
- Good feel for UI/UX; and
- Some workday overlap with America/New_York.
Preferred:
- Experience meeting and conforming to compliance standards: HITRUST, HIPAA, SOC-2, ISO 27001, FIPS-140, etc;
- Passion for cryptography and security;
- Experience with Javascript and Node.js;
- DevOps experience with Jenkins, Ansible, and AWS
