Overview
Storable is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead software development for our RV & Camping Division (Newbook), building the software that powers the day-to-day operations of RV parks, campgrounds, holiday parks, RV resorts, and other outdoor hospitality businesses. Our platform supports the workflows operators rely on to manage reservations and online bookings, guest experiences, point of sale, payments and billing, customer records, housekeeping and maintenance, channel and OTA integrations, reporting, and more.
As the Engineering Manager for our RV & Camping platform, you’ll lead a team of around 10 engineers building and modernizing cloud-native SaaS applications used by park operators and their guests around the world. Your team works across the stack using technologies such as PHP, React, TypeScript, and modern AI-assisted engineering workflows to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performing products.
Above all, this is a hands-on technical leadership role. You pair traditional engineering discipline with modern, AI-enabled execution; stay close to architecture and code so your guidance carries real technical weight; and raise the standard for how the team uses AI, communicates technical decisions, and collaborates day to day.
What you'll do every day
- Define and execute a product-aligned engineering strategy that advances Storable’s RV & Camping (Newbook) platform.
- Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team of approximately 10 engineers, providing regular feedback, career development, and clear expectations.
- Stay technically hands-on where it counts by pairing with engineers in the code, reviewing designs and pull requests, and weighing in on architecture to keep decisions grounded in real system constraints.
- Translate business priorities into actionable engineering roadmaps with clear milestones, KPIs, and measurable outcomes.
- Oversee the design, development, and scaling of cloud-native applications that serve global outdoor hospitality customers.
- Ensure the stability, scalability, performance, and security of mission-critical applications, leading incident response for your team’s services and partnering closely with DevOps on deployment, observability, and reliability.
- Lead modernization initiatives that evolve legacy systems into distributed, service-oriented architectures, using AI-assisted tooling to explore options, de-risk migrations, and move faster without compromising quality.
- Champion best-in-class engineering practices, including automated testing, code quality, CI/CD, and thoughtful use of AI-assisted development workflows across the software development lifecycle.
- Set clear standards and guardrails for AI-assisted engineering, coach engineers on effective prompting and review of AI-generated code, and sponsor internal AI-enabled tools and automations that reduce repetitive work.
- Define and track engineering performance indicators (e.g., velocity, uptime, release quality, cost efficiency), including the impact of AI-assisted workflows, and provide clear, data-informed updates to senior leaders and cross-functional partners.
How you’ll lead with AI
- Treat AI as a serious engineering tool and set expectations for how your team uses it across design, implementation, testing, and operations.
- Define clear standards and guardrails for AI-assisted development, including how AI-generated code and artifacts are reviewed for correctness, security, maintainability, and fit within the broader system before anything ships.
- Coach engineers on effective prompting and AI-assisted workflows, helping them distinguish where AI can accelerate the work from where deeper human judgment is required.
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to build or sponsor internal AI-enabled tools, automations, and workflows that reduce repetitive engineering work and free up time for higher-leverage problems.
- Measure and communicate the impact of AI-assisted workflows on developer velocity, quality, and delivery, and continuously refine the team’s AI practices based on data and feedback.
What you need to bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
- 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including direct experience managing and growing engineering teams.
- Proven track record delivering SaaS products at scale in fast-paced, growth environments.
- Deep, hands-on engineering background: you have personally built and shipped production web applications with PHP and React (TypeScript/JavaScript and comparable technologies welcome), and retain the technical depth to review designs and code, reason through complex systems, and mentor senior engineers credibly.
- Technical judgment that earns the respect of an experienced engineering team; you lead from real engineering experience, not process alone.
- Hands-on success transitioning from legacy systems to cloud-native, service-oriented architectures.
- Demonstrated, day-to-day fluency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT or similar), with the ability to evaluate, correct, and improve AI-generated work rather than accepting outputs blindly.
- Working understanding of AWS, scalable infrastructure, and application security sufficient to partner effectively with DevOps and make sound architectural decisions.
- Strong experience with Agile/Lean development and organizational process improvement, with excellent communication skills for influencing across functions and geographies.
Bonus points
- Experience modernizing legacy systems or incrementally refactoring older codebases in production.
- Experience building or operating SaaS products that support complex, industry-specific operational workflows.
- Experience with point of sale, reservations, bookings, payments, customer management, channel management, or marketplace-style systems.
- Experience building internal AI-enabled tools, automations, or workflows that improve developer productivity or engineering quality, and mentoring engineers on effective AI-assisted development practices.
